If you are interested in becoming an apprentice through the Sheet Metal Institute you need to have a good understanding of the application process. Successful entry into one of our programs depends highly on your ability to meet each of the program requirements and complete each step of the application process to the best of your abilities.

For program information and requirements, interested applicants should review the Application Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page and the Application Packet page.  We have went to great lengths to clearly describe our programs in these areas, and it is imperative that you look through the provided information to fully understand all the requirements that you must meet to apply to our programs.  The Application packet is a downloadable pdf packet that walks you through the entire application process with check lists, locations, times and dates.  It should answer all your questions about the application process.  To see all of our Apprenticeship programs click here. You will see each program listed individually and will be able to get details and requirements by opening the individual link.

The Sheet Metal Institute currently offers three apprenticeship programs: Sheet Metal Worker, Sheet Metal Service Technician and Residential Sheet Metal. We will only accept applications during our stated times.

InterviewThe application process is a two-step process:

  • Fill out and turn in the application with all supporting documentation
  • Oral Interview

The applicant will be scheduled for an oral interview the month following the application.

Applications are available on our web site, but must be turned in at our application locations.  All required documentation must be attached to the application at the time it is turned in. Once you have filled out and turned in your application it will go through a review process and our staff will notify you by mail when you will be scheduled for your oral interview.
